How do I tame my guinea pig, Chester? How do I hold him without him running away or getting stressed? ?

I've had him for a month and a half and he still hasn't bonded with me and I don't think he trusts me. I tried luring him with a carrot, but every time i try to hold him, he kicks and runs away. I can't cut his nails because i can't hold him.
