Why do women wear tampons? If they can kill you (TSS) and cause internal scaring, reproductive harm, etc.?

Thousands of women either die or, get scars or have future reproductive damage from tampons each year, more than troops killed in Iraq war...but no one is discussing this? Is political correctness and lack of informed women killing/hurting women? Why are women so wound up and freaked out about pads when tampons kill/maime?
