Red carpet what colour should i paint my walls?

Looking to paint my walls I'm keeping my light red carpet I was thinking of a of white? and something different for the chimney light grey or purple i'm no good with colours so will need some proper guidance :( Forgot to mention my settee is a dark aubergine its a hard one
